Partner with us to make your parklet dreams a reality

We want to support communities and residents' groups in London to create new parklets, so we’re on the lookout for groups to team up with. If you’re interested in creating a parklet or know someone who might be, now’s the time to get in touch!

  • Put simply, parklets are former parking spaces that have been transformed into areas for people to enjoy.

You can find out more about parklets and how they help us tackle the climate crisis at this page of our website.

  • We are looking for people in London who are excited about how a parklet could benefit their community. You don’t have to be a formally constituted group or organisation, but we ask that you’re not on your own (if you’re an individual, we’d advise getting a neighbour or two onboard with the idea before you fill in our form).

We are particularly interested in working with groups in areas that:

    • are most negatively impacted by traffic dominance, congestion and air pollution,

    • have higher levels of deprivation and lower rates of car ownership.

    • have less access to green space, as indicated on our parklet plotter.

We are especially interested in hearing from groups traditionally underrepresented in climate action, as part of Possible’s wider aim to increase diversity and inclusion in the climate movement. This includes:

    • Black and ethnic minority communities

    • Working class communities and people on low incomes

    • Older people

    • Young people

    • Refugee communities

  • You don’t have to have a fixed idea of what your parklet will look like. There’s loads of good things you can do with an old parking space. For example, you might want to use your parklet as

    • a foodbank collection point;

    • a place to hold coffee mornings for isolated older people;

    • somewhere for families to spend time after school whilst waiting for the after-school clubs to finish.

    • a space to grow herbs for your community kitchen.

    • A little Free Library

    • Or simply some public seating or greenery in an area where there is none.

Or you may have even better ideas for a parklet that we haven't thought of!

We just want to see that you’ve thought about how a parklet can benefit your community.

  • The community partners that we work with will benefit from the following support from Possible:

    • Project management.

    • Fundraising support (we’ll work together to secure the funds for materials etc to build the parklet).

    • Working together to apply to your local council for relevant permissions.

    • Assistance with designing a parklet that meets the needs of your community.

    • Finding a contractor to build the parklet.

    • Sourcing materials.

    • Press and media for the completed parklet, including a launch event.

    • The London Parklets Network - a forum for those who have experience of creating parklets and can offer advice.

What we will expect from our community partners

    • Involving your members/neighbours in ideas for the design of the parklet.

    • Reaching out to local residents and businesses to hear about their ideas and/or concerns about the parklet.

    • Working together to raise any additional funds needed (eg through local community grants).

    • Working together to put on a launch event to publicly celebrate your parklet.

    • Participating in communications eg video interviews, press interviews about the parklet

  • If you’re keen to partner up with us to make your parklet dream a reality, please complete the Expression of Interest form by 4th January at the latest. Please note, submissions will be reviewed on an ongoing basis, so try to submit the form early to avoid disappointment.

The form asks for the following information:

    • Information about your group. If you’re not an established group, you can just tell us how many people you are and why you’re teaming up for this.

    • Some explanation of what you have in mind for your parklet. You don’t have to have fixed plans, but we’d love to get a sense from you about where you’d want your parklet to be and how it will benefit your community.

    • Contact details so that we can get in touch with you to discuss next steps.

  • If you’re keen to get a parklet in your area but not able to partner with us this time, have a look at this page of our website for have a look at this page of our website for advice on creating your own parklet project.

One hurdle you might come up against, is getting permission from your local council to use the space on the road. If live in Hackney, Hounslow, Lambeth or Waltham Forest, you’re in luck - these are currently the only councils in the UK that have processes in which residents can apply for community parklets (similarly to how they would apply for a parking permit). If you don’t live in one of these Boroughs, you can use our webtool to email your local councillors asking them to create a parklet process (our webtool has a template email for you to use, but we’d suggest personalising it with a bit of information about your ideas for a parklet).

Want to help other communities get parklets?

That’s great! Here’s three things you can do:

    1. Share our video with people you know in London, so that they know we’re looking to help groups create parklets.

    2. Use our simple online tool to ask your local council to make it easier for residents to get permission to create parklets.

    3. Chip in to our Parklet Pot to help fund new community parklets.

If you have any questions, or would like to have a chat about your ideas before filling in the Expression of Interest form, get in touch with Carolyn at carolyn@wearepossible.org.
