A huge win in the fight against SUVs.

New this week: A major city is taking action on gas-guzzling SUVs.*

The people of Paris want cleaner, greener streets. And by voting for action against SUVs in Sunday’s city-wide referendum, they’ve taken a huge step towards that vision.

The price of on-street parking for a heavy, large and polluting SUV or 4X4 will be tripled, to a rate of €18 an hour in the city centre, a simple action that will push SUVs out of Paris.

As the UK’s climate solutions charity, we’re excited.

Cities here in the UK have also seen a huge rise in SUVs in recent years. With these vehicles emitting 25% more CO2 than standard cars, taking up more space on the street, and causing more deadly collisions, the increase in SUVs is a threat to both people and planet.

SUVs are overwhelmingly driven by the richest residents of our cities, so increasing parking charges is a fair and practical solution that will speed up the transition to cleaner, safer streets.

If it can happen in Paris, it can happen here!

At Possible, we’re building public support for positive climate action, from bans on SUV ads to higher charges on the dirtiest cars.

Are you with us?

Three ways to take action:

1. Share our animation on social media

We’ve just published a short animation to get more people thinking about the climate impact of SUVs and involved in campaigns to get them out of UK cities. Will you help us reach more people by sharing our video with your friends and family?

2. Sign our petition to ban SUV advertising.

We banned tobacco advertising because smoking kills. Now it’s time to put a stop to the promotion of highly polluting Sports Utility Vehicles (SUVs). Will you add your name?

3. Chip in to increase our impact.

We’re up against the deep pockets and blank cheques of billionaire advertisers, car manufacturers and fossil fuel companies. But the people of Paris have shown that when we act together, we can do amazing things for the climate. Will you donate to support our campaigns?
