18th - 25th April 〰️ Every penny you donate will be DOUBLED 〰️

We’re excited to be invited to participate in the Big Give’s Green Match Fund.

This means that every pound donated to Possible between midday 18th and midday 25th April, will be doubled by generous match funders who want to see more action on climate.*

If you give £5, we’ll get £10, £25 will give us £50, £50 will give us £100 - you get the idea.

Everything that's raised this week, will help us get closer to our vision of a zero carbon Britain, built by and for the people of the UK.

This is a huge opportunity to raise funds for positive action on the climate crisis in this critical election year.

Three ways to make the most of the Big Give.

  1. Donate

Donate before midday 25th April to see your gift doubled.

2. Organise a fundraiser

The more you can donate between 18th and 25th April, the more the match funders will donate too. So why not increase your donation by asking your friends, family and colleagues to chip in. Bake sales, clothes swaps, quizzes and film nights are just some of the ways you can bring people together and inspire positive action on the climate crisis while raising some extra money during the Big Give week. If you want to have a chat through any of these suggestions, or other ideas you might have, email Hannah at hannah@wearepossible.org - she’ll be happy to help!

3. Spread the word

We’ve pulled together some text and resources to make it easy for you, as someone who supports our work, to help us make the most of the Big Give week.

  • “Quick thing! I know you’ve been looking for ways to take action on climate and there’s a really great opportunity at the moment. Some funders have agreed to match donations from the public this week for Possible. This is a great opportunity to raise money for positive action on the climate crisis in this critical election year (all donations are essentially doubled at no extra cost to you or me!). I thought you might be interested.

I've just donated. Will you do the same?

  • “Hi XXX,

I’m getting in touch because there’s an opportunity to raise funds for climate action that I thought you’d be interested in. One of the charities I support is Possible - they help people take positive practical action on the climate crisis, and come up with innovative solutions to speed up the transition to a zero carbon UK (my favourite thing about Possible is …. [add your favourite, or see below for examples]).

Anyway, generous funders at The Big Give have agreed to match donations Possible receive between 18th and 25th April (so if someone donates a fiver Possible gets a tenner, if someone donates fifty quid, they get a hundred, and if someone donates one hundred, that’s £200 in the pot for Possible’s work).

I thought you’d want to know about this - we’re all trying to do our bit for the climate, and if you’re in a position to donate to climate action this year, this is the time to do it, as you’ll have double the impact.

Also, if you are not already on Possible’s mailing list, I’d suggest you sign up to receive their emails. They do loads of great projects that I think you’ll be interested in. Here’s the link: https://action.wearepossible.org/page/66335/subscribehttps://action.wearepossible.org/page/66335/subscribe/1/1 (don’t worry, they don’t spam you with loads of emails - it’s usually about one a week, and you can unsubscribe any time if it’s too much).

    Thanks,

    XXX

  • In your message, social media post, or email, please mention what you love most about Possible (eg. a particular project that really grabbed your interest, or something about our approach to climate action). This will make your message more personal and persuasive to your friends and family. Here’s a few examples:

“One of the things I love most about Possible is …

    - “... the work they’ve been doing to help home care workers access electric cars at a cheaper price.”

    - “… their Fixing Factory pilot (where people can visit a highstreet shop to get their appliances repaired for free, and/or get trained up in fixing). I really hope they can roll these out across the country! “

    - “… their onshore wind campaign (the government had been blocking new onshore wind projects for years, preventing people of the UK from benefiting from cheap clean energy! Possible has been campaigning on these blocks for years, getting thousands of people to lobby their MPs on the issue - and it’s working!“

    - “…Climate Perks - the scheme that gets employers their team additional days off work for flight-free holidays. … “

    - “… the work they’ve been doing to get urban communities across the UK excited about car free visions and climate-friendly futures for their streets. “

    - “… how they find innovative ways to get more people talking about climate solutions (from their board game, to climate-science inspired nail art, to full blown climate-themed cabarets). It can be difficult to broach the subject of climate with friends/family, but their projects make it easier - and even enjoyable! “

    - “… how they speak up against misinformation! There’s so much talk about climate, and loads of businesses and industries claim to be “green” but it’s difficult for normal people to know what’s true. Possible are quick to react when airlines, the government, or companies are misleading customers, and are proactive in putting the facts out so that we can all make informed decisions. “

    - “… their commitment to anti-oppression in their projects and within their internal processes! They understand that if we’re going to build a cleaner, fairer, UK, we need to involve everyone - and they’re doing the work to break down barriers to the climate movement and engage those communities who are underrepresented.”

Why donate to Possible during the Big Give?

For nearly fifteen years, Possible has been inspiring climate action across the UK. From plugging solar into railways to putting heat pumps under parks, Possible brings climate solutions to life, meaning warmer homes in winter, energy security for the country and cleaner air in our communities.

“Possible is that rare beast which applies a true campaigning spirit to achieving positive climate outcomes. They consistently punch above their weight and are creative, inspiring and innovative.”
Baroness Bryony Worthington, Climate Change Act 2008 lead author

Now more than ever, we have to tell the positive story of climate action.

With a general election around the corner, we’re seeing more and more people trying to turn climate change into a culture war. We can’t let this happen.

Government ministers peddle conspiracy theories. Our prime minister has watered down net zero targets. Politicians are trying to turn climate into a dividing line, rather than a way to bring people together.

The best way of maintaining momentum on climate is to help people shape the real solutions - this is what Possible is all about.

Your donation could help us:

  • Hold politicians to account on the climate ahead of what could be one of the most important general elections of our lifetime.

  • Campaign to go further on clean air, encouraging more towns and cities to bring in policies to cut congestion

  • Challenge car dominance on our roads and bring new green spaces to urban streets which desperately need outdoor space

  • Continue to expose and challenge the policy blockers on clean energy, and campaign for a cheaper, fairer energy system.

  • Take our Fixing Factory to more high streets, training up a new generation of fixers and slashing electronic waste

Together, we can create a cleaner, fairer Britain.

If you donate during the Big Give’s Green Match Fund, your money will be doubled and so will your climate impact.

*The Big Give have agreed to give a maximum of £30,000 in match funds. In order to receive this £30,000 we need to raise the same amount by public donations during the Big Give week (18th-25th April). Any donations made above that threshold will not be matched - but they will still go straight to us, and will help bring us closer to a zero carbon Britain. You can find out more about the Big Give and how it works at https://donate.biggive.org/.
