Our climate impact in 2025
It’s the end of another year of inspiring climate action, but before we break out our fresh calendars for 2026, we wanted to celebrate the amazing achievements of the year behind us - all thanks to thousands of our supporters.
Grab a mince pie if you’ve got any left. Here’s what you made possible in 2026:
We raised taxes on private jets - again!
After thousands of our supporters lobbied their MPs ahead of the Budget, we popped up outside Parliament with our winged car, and our social media campaign reached millions - the Chancellor jacked up taxes on these super polluters for the second year in a row. It’s still a tiny proportion of what they should be paying - but we’re flying in the right direction.
2. We opened the doors to a brand new Fixing Factory.
Our biggest ever Fixing Factory has opened its doors in Haringey and is already delivering loads of services with the help of dozens of volunteers. Across our four sites, we’re cutting waste and sharing skills - and it’s making waves. The BBC Breakfast radio show broadcast from one of our workshops for the whole morning, and we even got a visit from the deputy prime minister!
3. We published a toolkit to help people put Parklets on their street.
Our work to transform the streetscape to reduce car dependency and open up more possibilities for cleaner travel continues - and this year we published our comprehensive toolkit on how to put a parklet where you live. Take a look, share it with your local councillors, and while you’re imagining what’s possible on your street - why not have a play with our new street trees tool.
4. We won a car-free Oxford Street!
Pedestrianising a street as iconic as Oxford Street is a huge win for imagining how we could shape our cities without putting cars at the heart of everything - and we played a huge part in making it happen. We mobilised en masse when the Mayor was making this decision, and over 10% of the consultation responses came from supporters like you. You’ve pedestrianised one of the most iconic parts of the Monopoly board!
5. We told the truth about aviation expansion directly to MPs in Parliament.
Our head of aviation Ali was invited to give evidence to the Environment Audit Committee this year, and set out the case against airport expansion. Our evidence and recommendations appeared in the committee’s final report which warned that aviation expansion is likely to “seriously jeopardise" our climate goals.
6. We got 60 more businesses to help their staff go flight free.
This year we've encouraged 60 more organisations to offer their staff paid leave for low-carbon holiday travel. Over 4,000 more of you have been empowered to take the train on your holidays without losing out on precious leisure time.
7. We’ve hardly been off the airwaves.
From Sky News to LBC to the BBC, our campaigners have been on the television and radio constantly this year, making the case for climate action and pushing back on the forces of delay and denial head on. It’s not always a pleasant experience to step into a media landscape which can seem determined to defend the status quo - but our spokespeople were up for the challenge.
8. We’re still pushing for a circular economy.
We’re working with our partners to normalise an economy rooted in reuse, rather than the throwaway culture we have which is trashing our planet. We’ve been in council chambers to get these ideas in council action plans, and even joined a reception at Parliament to get more politicians on board with the principles of a circular economy which allows us all to thrive within a healthy climate.
This is just a taste of what our movement made possible this year. From lobbying our local politicians to rolling up our sleeves and making things happen where we live, we’re changing the conversation on climate by taking positive, practical action.
It’s a scary time for the climate. Delayers and deniers are still a minority, but they’re growing in influence. The best antidote to this poison is action - and it’s because of the positive actions taken by people like you, that support for climate action is still holding strong in the UK.
Thank you so much for all you do, and for keeping a zero carbon Britain within reach. Let’s keep going in 2026.
Love what we’re doing?
At Possible, our vision is a zero carbon UK, built by and for everyone. We show people and politicians across the country that this is possible, and inspire practical action to make sure we get there at the speed required.
