Jetting away with it: How private jets pollute the most and pay the least

We all know that flying is bad for the climate - but how bad are private jets? We crunched the numbers to find out - and they’re even worse than we thought!

Flying by private jet can be up to 30 times more polluting than standard flights.

And you know what the real kicker is?

Our report found that someone on a standard flight could be paying more tax than someone on a private jet.

Air passenger duty is the tax people pay on any commercial flight. We found that, shockingly, one in five private jet flights don’t need to pay this at all, and most of the rest only pay the standard rate (rather than the highest rate which is used for business class seats). Given the huge environmental impact of private jets we think they should be paying much more in tax, not less!

We also looked at tax as a proportion of ticket costs - and we found that this is also much lower for private jets flights than for ordinary passengers. We don’t think this is fair.

Let’s ban fossil-fuel-powered private jets by 2030 at the latest and introduce proper taxes which reflect the harm they inflict on our climate. Are you in?
