Better Buses for Birmingham

We want better buses for Birmingham.

Buses are a lifeline for thousands of people in Birmingham. They are already a fantastic, climate-friendly mode of transport, but they need to be more accessible, reliable, and affordable to work for Birmingham citizens and visitors.

The system is broken. It’s time for change.

Giving the public control of public transport can ensure buses are operated in the public’s best interest. This means more control over fares, routes, and frequency of services, and profits from busy routes can be used to subsidise quieter ones. Other cities and regions are also making progress on bringing buses back under public control:

  • London buses are a world-class leader; they are integrated, frequent, and have a simple fare structure.

  • Edinburgh's Lothian buses have some of the highest levels of customer satisfaction.

  • Reading Buses can invest an additional £3 million per year into its network. It now has one of the largest green fleets in the country.

  • Nottingham City Transport is ‘UK bus operator of the year’ for the 3rd time in a row.

We are forming a coalition of organisations and individuals to call for buses to be brought (back) under public control.
