Taking the plane Vs eating avocados. When it comes to our carbon footprint, how does flying measure up against other things we do?

We know that we need to cut our emissions as fast as possible to protect the climate - and reduce the frequency and severity of floods, wildfires and droughts that are already harming people across the globe. But where do you start?

Avoiding taking flights is one of the best things we can do to reduce our environmental impact. But at the moment, only half of the UK population are aware of the climate impact of plane travel (ten times more emissions than taking the train!). With airlines or booking websites failing to provide information about the climate impact of different transport choices, we need to get the word out there.

By comparing flight emissions with other things we do, it’s easier to get a sense of the scale of the problem. So we’ve done the maths …
